Following up with Part 2: Downtown Giving
The Downtown Shopper Basket is complete and off to its new home! Alexandria Binanti- Robinson and I had the honor of attending The Kenosha Women’s Network Annual Luncheon and Holiday Fundraiser, meeting new faces and catching up with familiar ones. All I can say is, this fantastic group of Women are doing some amazing things in Kenosha County.
Christine King of Ameriprise Financial, was the Principal Event Sponsor, basket sponsor and 2019 President of The Kenosha Women’s Network! Christine King, lives and maintains a comprehensive financial planning practice in Downtown Kenosha. Additionally, monthly meetings for The Kenosha Women’s Network are held at The O- Kenosha’s first CoWorking Space. With so much presence in Downtown, it’s no wonder Christine decided to approach Alexandria, Downtown Kenosha Inc (DKI) Director, with the idea of a Downtown Gift Basket.
When Alex approached me, I was thrilled! Not only do I love writing and boasting about Downtown, but the concept of including one of my Fair Trade Baskets, which are made by Artisan Women in Ghana, was perfect! From there we set to work, planning and reaching out to our Downtown businesses. The response received was truly heartwarming and more than we could have ever imagined. Not only was there not a moment’s hesitation from these business owners, so many of them took time to coordinate a personal pick up time with me, take photos and make their contributions beautiful! I want to take a moment to acknowledge and thank everyone involved in making this gift basket:
Happenings Magazine and the Kenosha Comedy Club, The Kenosha Harbor Holiday Market and the incredible artists that donated their time and talent to support, Dooley & Associates, The Buzz, Salon on Sixth, Bisou Lingerie, Kaiser’s Pizza and Pub, Kenosha CVB, Rustic Road Brewing Company, The Kenosha KingFish, Frank’s Diner, Salon Pure, Sandy’s Popper, Alpaca Arts, Heal Therapies, The Lettering Machine and Equinox Botanical Boutique. And special thanks to Christine King, Alexandria Binanti-Robinson, and The Kenosha Women’s Network.
Thank you all so much collaborating, contributing and supporting our community. I thoroughly enjoyed this opportunity to work alongside each and every one of you! Congratulations to the lucky winner Stacie; we hope you enjoy visiting these Downtown businesses!

Kenosha Women’s Network Holiday Luncheon and Grand Raffle, Dec 13th, 2019
Hi! I’m Gretchen, a small Fair Trade “pop-up shop” business owner and Downtown Kenosha, Inc. (DKI) volunteer. You can find me most Saturdays at the Kenosha HarborMarket selling beautiful handwoven baskets from Ghana. When the opportunity came to donate a basket for a raffle that was being held with The Kenosha Women’s Network, I was honored to be a part of it, especially once I read more about this incredible organization! Kenosha Women’s Network, “the success of one increases the success of all”. That precept is in the first line of this non-profits organization’s background story and stood out as a very powerful statement.
This organization is truly women supporting women throughout Kenosha County!
They distribute funds to member-sponsored organizations through their mini-grant program, over $90,000 donated since 2004! Supporting local organizations that benefit women and children, as well as co-sponsoring the Susan B. Anthony Awards Dinner in collaboration with other women’s organizations.
Approached by DKI to create a downtown basket to highlight our downtown culture (many of which are women owned), I was thrilled to not only provide the basket but more so to be able to visit our business downtown, collect contributions and am looking forward to attending the luncheon which is being held Friday, December 13th at the Kenosha Country Club. The spirit of the holiday season has brought out a tremendous amount of generosity, DKI and our Downtown businesses have truly touched my heart. This basket is filled to the brim with everything from Gift Certificates to Franks Diner, Comedy Club tickets, shopping at Bisou Lingerie to Kingfish games and gear …and that’s just a sneak peak. Stay tuned as I reveal a few more of what our generous Downtown businesses giveback each day leading up to the full basket reveal on Friday morning!
