I hear a Robin!

Most people know that spring is around the corner when they hear a robin singing. But I want to sing praise to a Robin of a different kind. Robin’s Nest Cakery. It is a great corner cakery located in its third and present location on the corner at 5537 Sixth Avenue.

Robin is in her seventh year of business, which she started with her daughter Maggie. Now the whole family is involved – her son makes frosting and her youngest daughter runs the front end and helps bake too! Her passion, inherited from her grandmother, is self taught. Her goods premiered at Harbormarket years ago, and she became an original success story to the KIVA loan process for building entrepreneurship in her woman owned business.

Sitting down in this nice local nest of a cafe, I honestly was blown away at how good her decadent desserts are. Her focus is on fresh, quality ingredients. She has worked with over 30 cupcake flavors and has a variety of choices for sale daily. Her cakes are a work of art; specializing in weddings, birthdays, and other celebratory needs with her artistic creations often found on display.

Later we talked over a cup of fresh brew from her coffee bar with me digging into a lemon curd eclair, where we discussed the expansion of her services and products for 2020. Something that has been a dream for Robin is to share her love of baking and family time. Now offering decorating classes, private parties, and other engaging class options, you will have to visit their Facebook page and Eventbrite to reserve your spot for a fun filled memory making day with your family and friends.

And for more exciting news, they have recently expanded their menu! Robins Nest now offers great breakfast and lunch options such as homemade bagels and yogurt parfaits, along with daily lunch items in rotation with a soup, salad, and sandwich option available by their designed day of the week. Quiches, muffins, and cookies are becoming main stay options, and Robin is launching her catering menu for corporate lunch options and casual get togethers. Tasting her turkey and avocado sandwich with homemade tomato basil soup brought me right back to the coziness of a homemade meal caringly prepared by mom.
