Kenosha is lucky enough to have a long-distance race in its own backyard; on Saturday, May 6, the Wisconsin Marathon threads its way through downtown, north to Carthage, south to Carol Beach and back north again to finish along the lake. The race continues to grow each year, as more and more runners are drawn to the breezy lakefront course, beautiful scenery and post-race beer and brats! The race course showcases all that Kenosha has to offer. Whether you’re running the 5K, half or full marathon--or just cheering on your favorite runner--being part of the Wisconsin Marathon day is a great new way to experience Downtown Kenosha.
Having run the half and the full previously, I can tell you that crowd support is key—and it makes all the runners feel like they are part of the Kenosha family. If you’re not running on May 6th, please take time to line the streets of beautiful downtown K-town and cheer on the runners. If the temps drop that morning, you can pop into The Buzz for a warm-up latte. If it feels more like summer, Scoops and Sandy's Poppers are a few steps away—not to mention the sinful treats at Robin's Nest Cakery and Mike's Chicken and Donuts!
With the finish line right on Ring Road, you even have time to sneak over to the Kenosha Public Museum or Civil War Museum while your favorite marathoner is on the course. Both Museums have excellent, interactive exhibits and a great view of the lake.
Full course details can be found on the Wisconsin Marathon website: http://wisconsinmarathon.com/. If you’re not running or spectating on May 6th, volunteers are always needed! Check out http://wisconsinmarathon.com/volunteer/ to find out where you can help out.
Good luck to all the runners next month! Have a great race—and a great time in Downtown Kenosha!
