Recently a friend and I decided to visit the new Downtown restaurant Slip 56. I had heard quiet rumblings through my friends group that this place was an excellent addition to our Downtown. My first impression when I pulled up was how cheery it was with it’s red and turquoise outdoor seating area.
We made our way inside and were instantly impressed. Do you ever have that feeling when you walk into a place that you’re not in Kenosha anymore, but rather transported to some hip new place? That was definitely the vibe I caught. I was feeling quite proud that Downtown Kenosha was where this up and coming restaurant had decided to do their business. The service was friendly and knowledgeable about the building’s history. We were sat to an open window, yes, all the front windows open! The breeze was warm and it was easy to see how this would be THE spot to be this summer.
The food menu was impressive and the drink menu even more so, featuring signature cocktails, craft martini’s and both craft and domestic beers. They feature daily meal specials as well as salads, grilled flatbread sandwiches, pasta dishes, burgers and sandwiches, and seafood dishes. I don’t know about you but whenever I go to a new restaurant I order something I am familiar with the first time, just to get a feel for how they do things. I ordered the Italian Beef Sandwich with Sweet Potato Fries. My friend went with the Classic Pub Burger with regular fries.
The food came and it was delicious! Our favorite thing we ordered were the Sweet Potato Fries, they were waffles fries! Seasoned with salt and pepper they were amazingly simple yet mouthwatering. We were each also excited by our sandwiches. Our final thoughts were that we would definitely be coming back.
If you are looking for a new place to try, a cozy spot for a date, a fun place to grab lunch after visiting HarborMarket, or just somewhere to go out with friends and enjoy live music, Slip 56 hits the mark. Be sure to check out their Facebook page for all the info on events they’re having. You can also check out their menu and more at their website.
